SAFETY FIRST!

As required by the State, practice fire and disaster drills are conducted monthly.  For fire drills we review the rules for evacuating the house, and follow the evacuation plans posted in the daycare.  We also review “stop, drop, and roll”.  For disaster (tornado) drills, we retreat to a secure area of the home away from windows and breaking glass until it is safe to return to the center areas.  If returning is not an option, staff will begin to contact parents to pick up their children.

Are YOU Prepared?

Chicago.  The Windy City.  We all know how unpredictable the weather can be, and we're had some unusual surprises this year.  From major storms to actual tornados (3 at one time in early August to be exact)!  This can be scary.  Especially for children who will be looking to YOU, mom and dad, to keep them safe and provide during this time of emergency.

Imagine that you have no electricity, no gas, no water and no telephone service. Imagine that all the businesses are closed and you are without any kind of emergency services. What will you do until help arrives?

Not sure?  Want to know more about what to do?

SMOKE DETECTORS

SAVES LIVES

Every home should be equipped with a working smoke detector, and in some cases, more than one depending on the size of your home.  This does not only apply to home owners, but also to those renting.  If you are renting, it is your landlord's responsibility to provide working smoke detectors. If you do not have one, please ask for one.  For our convenience, free smoke detectors are now available at all Chicago Fire Department Firehouses.  So there is no excuse!

What is PASS you ask?

PASS is the acronym for POINT, AIM, SQUEEZE, and SWEEP

These are the standard instructions on how to properly use a fire extinguisher.  Every home should also have a charged fire extinguisher easily accessible for emergencies.  There are 3 classes.  “Class B” for flammable liquids, “Class C” for electrical fires, and “Class ABC” for all common combustibles.  Be sure to get one today.  They are available at all major discounter stores.
